Heartland services at Riverton Community House
We are fortunate to hold the Heartlands MSD Contract for our area which enables us to host a range of Government agencies at our hub in Riverton. This includes a regular JP service four mornings a week.
We work with a range of people to explore the stress and anxiety they may be experiencing and help them resolve issues in their lives that are making it difficult for them to live happily and positively.
We walk alongside whanau/families and individuals using mana-enhancing practices and frameworks.
Our financial mentors help people plan for a more financially stable future, explore financial options, and help work on reducing debt and hardship.
Our team works with children, teens, and adults to explore personal issues and work on strategies for positive mental health.
The volunteer driver service helps people in the Riverton community who are having trouble with affording or having transport to attend a local medical appointment.
We offer a range of services to the community such as a Justice of the Peace, ……appointments.

One Stop shop
The Riverton Community House office is also a Heartland Service Centre providing a one-stop-shop where people living in the Riverton and surrounding western southland area can access a range of government and community services. The aim is to improve access to information and services for families.
Approximately 25 central government agencies and more than 50 community organisations participate in Heartland Centres throughout the country. The centres provide a convenient meeting
place for people to discuss their needs directly with service providers.
The Service Centres as one-stop-shops feature services and information from a range of Government organisations including:
- forms and applications
- guidelines
- email and phone facilities
- access to government websites
We will assist you to make appointments with service provider representatives and direct you to services that best meet your needs.
We can help you with
- Face to face meetings by arranging an appointment with visiting representatives from a range of Government agencies.
- Free access to Government websites
- Toll-free phone access to Government agencies
Here are the regularly scheduled services available at Riverton Community House Heartland Services Support. Please contact our office to arrange appointments.
- Age Concern – Advice and support on concerns or matters relating to older people, their carer, and their whanau.
- Nga Kete Nurse – Tuesday fortnightly from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Justice of the Peace – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
- Jubilee Budget Advisory Service – 9:00 am to 12:00 pm first and third Thursday of the month, make an appointment on 0800 585 4533.
- Ministry of Justice – Family Court Navigator – Tuesday fortnightly from 10:00am to12:00 pm
- MSD – Work and Income – first Wednesday of the month 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
- IRD – Make an appointment if need
What is Heartland Service?
Heartlands are at the heart of your community, providing access to government and community services for rural communities. Heartland Services provide a convenient meeting place for local people to discuss their needs directly with government agencies and community organisations. Each Heartland Service centre is managed by coordinators who can help you arrange face to face meetings with government, and non-government services, identify and obtain the government forms you need, and access government and community websites and publications. Appointments and referrals to other agencies can also be made through our centre. Your Heartland Service Coordinator has information available about many other agencies and services. This service is free, convenient, and friendly. The coordinator is available: Your one stop shop for information and connection to social service providers in Western Southland.
There are many ways to access government and community services. But sometimes you just want to talk to someone, face to face, in your own community. That’s exactly what Heartlands offers.
